VIRTUAL ASSISTANT WOES: How To Stay Healthy While Working From Home

Working from home as a Virtual Assistant is now a thing.  I remember when I started as a Virtual Assistant myself back in 2008, working from home was bizarre to most people I know.  It was something that seems to be impossible and hard to understand.  None of my friends know how it works and what benefits it gives.

Fast forward, nowadays, many people are enjoying the perks of working from home.  I mean, the fact that you don’t need to hurry up and commute to work is already a big advantage.  Add to that the benefit of being able to spend more time with your family, working from home is heaven to many.

However, it’s not always pros.  There are other cons in this industry.  Many Virtual Assistants does not notice it but they start to have unhealthy habits while working from home.

Here are some tips to stay healthy as a Virtual Assistant:

Have a regular schedule or routine

The beauty of working from home is that you have more freedom.  But then again, being a freelancer sometimes mean that you do whatever comes to mind.  Our body adjusts to a habit so make sure that you set a schedule for sleep, waking up, and even schedule your meals.  This will help you have a more organized life which actually will make it easier for you.

Get a good sleep

Since we are in the Philippines yet working during our clients working hours, most of the time our sleep pattern is disrupted.  We work at night and end our shift in the morning.  By the time that we end our day, everybody else is just starting theirs.  Make sure that your bedroom has a thick curtain to make sure that there is little sunlight coming in.  Set a cool room temperature a few minutes before you sleep, listen to soft instrumental music, take a cool shower, and get yourself ready to have a good sleep.

Get a very good chair

A common problem for most of our Virtual Assistants is back pain.  You have to invest in a very comfortable chair that will help ease your back pain.  Better yet, ditch the chair and use a standing desk.

Get into a healthy diet

When working from home, there will always be the temptation to eat whatever you want.  Remember, working from home is not a vacation so don’t indulge yourself into junk food.  Make sure that your fridge is packed with fruits and healthy snacks so when you open it, that’s all you have.

Exercise daily

You have to make sure that you have a schedule for exercise.  You have to move your joints, lose those fats, and burn those calories.  

Remember, if you choose to work from home, do not neglect your health.  Sometimes because we do not go to a regular office anymore, we are not conscious of our health anymore.

Health is still wealth so never forget that.
